Early Life and Conversion
Kenneth Hagin was born in McKinney, Texas, on August 20, 1917. He was raised in a strict Pentecostal home and experienced his first Pentecostal service at the age of 17. He was instantly slain in the Spirit and received the gift of speaking in tongues.
However, Hagin later strayed from the faith and lived a life of rebellion for several years. He struggled with alcoholism, smoking, and gambling. In 1933, he developed a serious heart condition and was told by doctors that he would not live.
Facing death, Hagin cried out to God for mercy. He was miraculously healed and instantly converted back to the Lord. He dedicated his life to preaching the gospel and became a full-time minister in 1936.
Ministry and Teachings
Kenneth Hagin began his ministry in Texas and quickly gained a reputation as a powerful evangelist and teacher. He established Rhema Bible Training Center in 1959, which has trained thousands of ministers and lay people worldwide.
Hagin's teachings centered around the importance of faith, healing, and prosperity. He believed that God wanted Christians to be healthy, wealthy, and successful in every area of their lives. He also emphasized the importance of the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit.
Hagin's teachings have been controversial at times, particularly his emphasis on prosperity. However, his supporters argue that he was simply teaching what is found in the Bible.
